Quick Oven Fries

I believe it's important to have positive associations with food. If you equate healthy food with being gross or unappealing, you're not likely to feel motivated to have healthy eating habits.

I have a mental list of foods I can feel good about making, that my kids love to eat. I try to make things from this happy food list, as often as possible, to keep them from feeling like life is unfair, because their pantry is lacking in the junk so present in most. These fries are one of our happy foods.

Quick Oven Fries

  • 2 lb. sliced potato, about 1 very large baking potato

  • 4 tsp. healthy high heat safe fat *see notes

  • 4 tsp. RealTaste Seasoning, or to taste Nurture, Hope, Amore recommended *see notes

1. Preheat oven and baking sheet to 450.

2. Toss potato, fat and seasoning together.

3. Bake for 10 minutes.

4. Turn heat to broil and bake for 5 more minutes, or until done.


These are oven fries, so they won't have the same texture as fried, fries. That said, they will have a more crispy texture on the outside if they have plenty of room with space in between them while baking, otherwise they'll steam and be more soft.

Recommended fats for high heat: organic, grass-fed beef tallow, organic grass-fed and non-hydrogenated lard. Generally, the harder the fat is at room temperature, the better it is for high heat, unless it's artificially processed and hydrogenated. Olive oil will work too, but I try to use the fats I recommended as often as possible.

You may use another seasoning of choice. Plain old salt to taste is yummy too.

Don't stop there, some feta and herbs sprinkled on top is delicious, or chili and green onions...
